April in the garden is amazing- the space turns from brown mess into lush green jungle of shapes, colors and textures. The end of April and May are my favourite days to spend in my garden. You can experience life and its cycles – all the birds singing, making nests, all the flowers emerging from the ground- there is no better place to be.
Of course there is also a lot of work to be done. So I took my camera with me to show you what’s happened in Marta’s garden! Miss Java is going with us- she will be 11 this June, but sometimes she acts like a puppy.
What needs to be done in the garden in April
Shrubs and lawn
I cut all the shrubs that needed it, tidied up all the leaves and branches that were on the lawn. Fertilised all garden. The lawn is in terrible state thanks to Miss Java and her peeing. I have scarified tha lawn and cut its edges neatly and took all that patches of burned grass from Java’s pee and sow new grass there.
Spiraea thunbergii
I just love how it blooms!
My shade garden
Remember my wall- I’ll be showing you this shady patch every month, so you can see how it changes throughout the year.
My vegetable garden
I sow raddishes, peas, onions and some herbs. Bought some flowers that are edible, so they will be a nice addition to my spring salads. My rhubarb is almost ready- the one on the pictures not so much, but two bushes in other part of the garden grow like crazy.
Ok let’s go around and see how the garden looks like these days 🙂
The lawn needs at least two weeks to look normal.
My chives are bigger everyday!
11 years old, haha!
Your garden is looking amazing! I hate gardening during the winter, so ours is such a mess with weeds growing everywhere. I really need to get outside and sort it out! I’m so behind on my sowing this year too – I’ve got nothing planted.
